{Thailand day 1, Bangkok}

We thought this sign was funny. "Please wait for a while" as our boarding time. :) haha!
So, i realize American flights are CHEAP. :) Every flight we took...Okinawa to Shanghai, Shanghai to Bangkok, and Bangkok to Chiang Mai, they fed us on every flight...a meal.  Even if it was just a one hour flight. It was AWESOME. :)
Fish rice, sushi, little fish, watermelon, some kind of jello, but it was a different texture.
We arrived at our hotel at 5 a.m. We were flying all night. So, we decided to take advantage of the breakfast as soon as we arrived. Then we went to our rooms and slept until about 10 a.m. and then headed out on the streets of Bangkok to see the sights.
This is a huge flower bouquet at our hotel. Thought it was pretty cool.
Our oversized king bed. Oh man it was awesome.
Getting ready to head out. There are four of us missing in this picture.
We took a boat tour along the river canal. It was awesome. We had to take two seperate boats for it. Look above at that engine. Man that thing emitted tons of nasty things in the air.
Shanes new hat that says Thailand on it. He bought it for about 200 baht, i think. :) The exchange rate is about 30 baht for one american dollar.  We were able to get a taxi ALL day for 1500 baht. Everything is so cheap in Thailand. It was so nice, and helped ease our cash spending.

On the boat tour our first stop was at this temple. This was the coolest temple we saw in Thailand.
You can climb the temple on STEEP stairs. The pic under this one shows a good background view from half way up the temple.
We wrote our names on this fabric that was stretched all the way around the middle section of the temple.
There is incredible detail put into every single temple.
The flowers hanging from the boat meant GOOD LUCK for the day. They sell these on the streets everyday. Our taxi driver has them hanging in his car.
Here below is a small canal we rode along that was lined with homes on each side. The people here are extremely poor.  They have amazing gawdy, fancy temples on almost every street, but then the people live in shacks.
This restaurant was our favorite restaurant out of our whole trip. GREAT food. Pad Thai, chicken on sticks, shrimp, curry dishes, and of course....the famous sticky rice with mango. THAT was our all time favorite and we tried to get it everyday we were there.

Here is a monk sitting outside the famous Golden Buddha's temple. This monk would splash holy water on your face. The Thai's have a buddha in every temple and shrine.  The Thai buddha is a skinny buddha. The chinese buddha is the fat buddha. Both were all over, but only skinny buddha's were in their temples.
This picture above is where the Golden Buddha was located inside. And the picture above that one is a picture of their King. The monk's here are higher position than the King. Interesting fact.
The streets here are the craziest thing i have ever seen in my life. They have lines on the roads, but there is no point. One the highway people drive in the emergency lane...and they will try to fit two cars in one lane. They all try squeezing together as much as possible. If you want to turn right , you just pull out in front of people...there is no waiting. It's like a herd of cows or a herd of people all squeezing together trying to race, but instead you are in cars. There are tons of motorcycles, tuk tuks and different two wheeled rides. This picture below is a picture of a restaurant with shark fins in the window. They eat shark fins, and they are pricey if you want them.
We found out that we came to Thailand during the Chinese New Year, so it was extra busy during our stay.
YES, you will see this OFTEN....A whole family trying to squeeze onto one motorcycle. There are FOUR people on this one. Crazy .
This picture below we are at the location of the famous reclining Buddha. Again, the detail is amazing.

A temple located in the same area as the reclining Buddha. The monks were singing their chants and bowing. You will always see people on their knees in front of the Buddha praying and bowing.
The relining Buddha. This thing is HUGE and long!!!
People have coins and they walk along putting one coin into each container all the way to the very end.
The famous Grand Palace! We didn't get to go in because we arrived too late. It was closed already. But from the outside it looked pretty amazing.
Elephants are a big thing here. Elephants can give people good luck for life.
Here below was our taxi driver for the whole day. He taught us a few thai things to say to people. He brought us to all the places we should see while here. He told us that he has a family and also has to take care of his grandkids. He says he often sleeps in his car because he is always working and that he never gets a holiday or days off. That's one thing we discovered here. These people work themselves to the bone. And they have to otherwise they wouldn't survive because they get paid so little. We LOVE the Thai people. So far, day one of Thailand was amazing.
