Our life Friday - Monday

Okay, Friday night we watched our friend's two little kids who are the same age as our two kids! We had a lot of fun watching them. Avery and Gavin are like best friends and little Andrew is just soooo cute. We watched their kids so they could go on a date. Shane's Birthday was on Saturday. Our friends watched Gavin and Tanner for a few hours while we went driving around on Shane's scooter and went to lunch. We had a lot of fun together. We were about 15 minutes away from home and it started raining. Shane was saying, "oh no!! This sucks!" I loved it though. It was fun getting rained on like that. Most of the time it felt like needles were poking me, but it was fun! It is definitely something we will always remember! Later that night we went back over to our friends house. I made a cake for Shane and brought it with us. He wanted "Better -than- anything" cake. (He's afraid to call it by it's real name.) :) It is yummy! We ate that and then played games. It was fun!
Then today, Monday, i hurt my knee really bad! I started running up the stairs but completely missed the step and my knee slammed into the stair and it hurt so bad. It is now swollen and bruising. It hurts to bend my knee or to use it in any way....it is even sensitive to the touch. Shane thinks i will be fine in a few days! I hope so b/c i have a run on September 3!
Then tonight, we went with a bunch of friends to an Indians baseball game! I took some pictures which i will put up soon. They were playing the Minnesota Twins....fitting, since that is where my family lives. Each couple has 2 kids just like us, so it was fun watching everyone looking at us in awww. :) haha. They were eewwing and awwing over the little one's. It was funny! I must say, my friends and i have got to have the cutest kids i have ever seen! They are all so dang cute!! :)
On our way out of the game, this guy starts walking up to us with flowers, saying to shane "here give the little one's some flowers and the ladies too". I was thinking, "why is he doing that?" Then all of a sudden, after shane takes the flowers, the guy asks for money b/c he is homeless! Am i mean? My first thought and what i just about said to him was, "you sure don't look homeless to me". I believed this guy was full of crap. We don't have money.... and i sure won't give it to some guy on the street who will probably go spend it on booze. I said, "give him the flowers back". Then my friend gives him some dimes. Anyway, he looked like one of those guys who makes a living off of begging who isn't even homeless. Guys like that can make more money off of begging than someone who has a good paying job! Anyway, i say give your money to a good cause, a good organization, a charity.... help people, but i don't believe in giving money to people off the street like that.
That was our weekend and our Monday events. Hope you enjoyed reading! Hopefully you could understand everything i typed.

Rain rain go away

Oh my goodness! All day yesterday, and so far all of today, the rain has just been falling non-stop. Okay, you all know by now that i don't like snow and today i am telling myself that i don't like the rain either. I realize something though... it is not the snow or the rain that i dislike.... it is the gloominess that comes with it that i cannot stand. I need sunshine just about every day. The one thing i don't like about Cleveland is that in the winter the sun NEVER shines. It is gloomy looking all the time. I have never disliked a winter more in my life than last winter here in Cleveland. In Idaho and Utah the sun will at least shine after a snowfall. Here it doesn't. My friend was telling me that Cleveland ranks either 3rd or 4th in the United States with the most cloud cover! No wonder i couldn't stand last winter! Ugh...i love it here in cleveland, but by the time we are finished with Dental school i will be ready to leave behind Cleveland's cloud cover. I will try to be a bit more positive in my next blog! :)

Road Rage

Okay, so i thought i had road rage until a recent incident that Shane and I saw over the weekend. We suddenly heard someone honk and then it turned into another and another and another. We look over and this lady is now laying on the horn so it is constant. She has her window down and is waving the finger in the air, yelling at some guy two cars in front of her. The guy she was yelling at jumped out of his car and looked ticked! Oh by the way, they were at a stop light and this was in the middle of traffic. He is walking toward her car lookin like he is going to hit her. I was thinking, "oh my gosh, we are going to witness an assault"! I got scared for her. So, she rolls her window up and he decides to kick her car. Of course he didn't cause any damage. As soon as he gets back in his car she jumps out of her car acting all dramatic. She stands in site of his license plate and writes down the number. She gets back in her car, rolls her window down again and starts yelling and waving the finger again!
Seriously people.... i get mad at drivers and might give them a dirty look or honk my horn, but i would never do something like that. This lady was driving a nice minivan and looked like a mom in her 30's. I just hope she didn't have kids in the car! What an example! I wish i would have seen what happened to make her so mad.

Summer runs

I ran in my second race of the summer. In July i ran in a 10K and that was pretty tough. I don't know that i will do one of those again for awhile. I did beat my husband in that one and that made me feel pretty dang good! :) Anyway, i ran in a 5K this morning and it went good. I ran it in 24 minutes and 40 seconds. It was a run to support research for pancreatic cancer. While i was there i read up on a few things about the cancer because i actually had no awareness of it. It is a very scary cancer and the bad thing about it is there are no early warning signs and by the time a person is diagnosed it is way too late for a cure. It is the #1 in fatality of all cancers. There are no screening tests for this cancer and there are no biomarkers that can diagnose it in its early stages, so they are in desperate need of a blood test that can catch it before it is too late.
Shane and the boys came and supported me. They watched me take off and he took a picture of me about half way through the run! pretty! I plan on running in another 5K on Labor Day in support of keeping smiles on kids faces. It is called "Miles for Smiles". That is all i know. I am not for sure what exactly i am supporting, but if it is for kids then i am in! :) I love getting the shirts they give the runner's. I can always use a new t-shirt! :)
There is a great sense of accomplishment i get from running in these races. Plus, it feels really great supporting the cause for these races. I hope i can always run in races. Gavin is already wanting to follow along. He said, "I want to run a race momma", and then he put my ear piece on his head from my MP3 player. It was cute. I think it would be a lot of fun to run in races with him when he gets a little older. Plus, i think it is good for kids to see their parents being physically active so that they can learn the importance of being healthy.

Boys will be boys

I am in the middle of potty training Gavin right now. He is doing really good. When we are at home he uses the toilet, but when we go out he doesn't do as well, which i guess is expected. But recently he has started telling me that he needs to go to the bathroom when we are out in public, which is awesome. Oh, he is also scared to go #2 on the toilet, which i hear is normal as well.

Anyway, i was drying my hair the other day. Gavin comes in and tells me he needs to go pee- pee, so i put him on the toilet and i go back to drying my hair. Suddenly, i hear Tanner sucking on something and he must have just slipped into the bathroom because i didn't know he was there until i heard that sucking noise. I look down and there he is with a piece of poop in his hand and he is getting ready to eat it. I freak out. I grab the poop, look over at Gavin, and notice that there is poop smeared on the toilet and all over his bum. I only have one hand to work with! I start calling for Shane in a panic. I am yelling, "where did this poop come from!" I don't see any trace of where the poop came from. Anyway, after i took the poop from Tanner's hand he decides to smear it all over the bathtub. SOOOO sick! Shane grabs Tanner and immediately starts scrubbing his face. I help Gavin with his mess. I suddenly realize that when i put Gavin on the toilet he had already started going #2. Somewhere along the way is when the poop fell out and, of course, Tanner noticed it. Shane ran upstairs to put Tanner in the bath and i followed with Gavin in my arms. After bathtime i brushed Tanner's teeth for about 5 minutes and then Shane finally said, "hun, i think that is good." :) I could have brushed his teeth for another 20 minutes and still would have felt like it wasn't long enough. It was quite an experience.

If you are wondering if Tanner actually ate some poop, no i don't think he did. He just had it on his lips and it looked like it was on his teeth, but Shane washed his mouth out before he could actually swallow it....at least i hope so. But he isn't sick so that is good! :)

Already looking forward to next summer

Okay, so my parents are taking Shane and I and my brothers and sister on vacation next summer. We are leaving the boys with Janet, my mother-in-law. I have been researching possible destinations for months now. Yes, i am so excited for this trip that i have actually been looking forward to it for a year already. Don't get me wrong, i LOVE my boys, but i cannot wait to have just one week where i don't have to wait on them! I will also get one week of alone time with Shane-an opportunity for us to reconnect again! It will be awesome! If it were up to me and money was no option i would make sure we went to Bora Bora! That is one place i WILL go to one day! Oh it is beautiful, but pricey!!! One day Shane and i will go there! :) Anyway, in the beginning we talked about going to Hawaii. Then we talked about going to some island, like St. Lucia. Then we talked about going over to Europe, which would have been awesome, but we pulled that one off the list for many reasons. Then we talked about going to Orlando and staying at a Disney Resort and getting a pass that would let us in every Disney park, including the water parks. We started setttling on that decision, but the more i thought about it, the more tiring it sounded. A vacation with no kids....a time for relaxing, kicking back, being waited on instead of waiting on others. Hmmmmmmmm.... going to an island started sounding much more appealing. In Orlando there are sooooo many things to do and i would want to try and get to every park possible so that we wouldn't miss out on anything. We would be going non-stop from morning until late night trying to see everything. That sounds exhausting to me. Let me repeat....We do not have kids with us!!! In that case, i don't want to feel rushed with so many things to do and see; therefore, an island is the best option! I cannot wait. Plus, my dad cannot ride any rides b/c of his heart. Brion gets motion sickness sooooo easily, so really he wouldn't last long on the rides at Disney World... at least at MGM, Epcot, and Universal Studios. Plus, we have been down there a few times already and it would be fun to experience something that we haven't experienced yet. Right?!
